China enjoys significant comparative advantages in agricultural and human resources with a number of sound agricultural projects initiated. To make the best use of such resources and better facilitate the complementarities and cooperation between domestic and overseas agricultural enterprises and projects, under aegis of Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China (MOC), China International Investment Promotion Center of MOC and Center of International Cooperation & Service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China (MOA) will jointly sponsor and convene "China International Forum on Agriculture Investment & Fair for Recommended Agricultural Projects" in Xiamen, China from 8 to 10 September 2004, which is affiliated to "The 8th China International Fair for Investment & Trade (CIFIT)" sponsored by the MOC and co-sponsored by UNCTAD and WAIPA. The Chinese state leader will be present at the Fair.

The top domestic agricultural enterprises and agricultural projects will get together at the Forum and Fair, which surely serve as an effective platform and channel for the cooperation in agricultural financing and investment. The investment institutions, investors, financing agencies, intermediaries as well as the transnational companies worldwide will find the best partners here and share the achievements from Chinese fast-growing economy. The senior officials from the Chinese Government and renowned specialists will also be present.

Arrangements

I. Agenda

1) Chinese delegates will make a briefing on China's agricultural financing and investment, policies, as well as the development trend in the future. Foreign delegates are expected to introduce the international agricultural investment projects and proposals as well as relevant policies;

2) Review the current cooperative programs carried out between Chinese and foreign agricultural enterprises in agricultural investment and trade;

3) Invite the Chinese and foreign investors as well as agricultural enterprises concerned to introduce the successful experience on making agricultural investment in China;

4) Organize Fair for Recommended Agricultural Projects to facilitate the contact and exchange for agricultural investment & cooperation proposals between the investment institutions, investors, investment promotion agencies as well as agricultural enterprises with interests home and abroad and domestic enterprises, agricultural development program and etc; and

5) Arrange the field visit to agricultural demonstrative projects for the delegates.

II. Preparation before the Conference

The Organizing Committee will initiate matchmaking activities in early August 2004 for the Chinese and overseas agricultural investment projects. Delegates due to attend the meeting are kindly requested to forward project proposals upon signing-up.

Registration expires on August 15, 2004. The delegates are kindly requested to fill up the "Registration Form" as well as the "Registration Form for Recommended Overseas Agricultural Project Proposal" and send back to the Organizing Committee through fax or email by the closing date.
